TRIPOLI, Libya

Finally….Tripoli, Libya…fuiihh finally

This city is a capital city of Libya. We had a strange experience about Libya while we’re checking in our flight (we flew by Qatar Airways to Tripoli from Kuwait) at Kuwait International Airport. The QR officer told us that every people who travel to Libya should translate their passport to Arabic language, no exception. Actually we had heard that information during we’re in Dubai, and 4 service passports had been translated by our friend in Consulate General Office in Dubai. The information we got, a diplomatic passport didn’t need to be translated, that was why only 4 passports were translated. But!!! QR officer still stood to his ground that all passports with no exception should be translated. He said :”I’m gonna help you Sir, if I have a power to let your friend’s passport, but I don’t have any. You know their “mentality” Sir!”. We were wondering…”whose mentality he means???”.

We arrived at Tripoli International Airport on the afternoon, we passed Friday Pray….When we went out from the airport we found many Khadaffi’s pictures in every spot in Tripoli. “Is he that famous?” Or “Isn’t he more famous enough???”sorry Libyan.

While we’re in the airport and on our way to the hotel, we found exactly the answer of our question about “their mentality”…Fuih, so many bureaucracy we found in airport (even we’re diplomatic and service passports holder), the Libyan drove their cars also “different” from people in other countries. In this country, you “may” stop and have a chat with a friend in the middle of the road or you “may” park your car where ever you want.

And the strangest thing we found in Tripoli is…there’s no address for each building or house or anything. When you need to go to a destination in Tripoli, you jump in to a taxy and then you tell the driver the area or district you want to go, direct him how to reach that area…or find a famous landmark nearby your destination, then tell him where he has to turn (left or right). Here in Tripoli, they use P.O. box as their address. And probably this is one of the reasons why newspapers in Tripoli (maybe in all Libya) reported expired news. What a strange city…

During we’re in Tripoli, we took chinesse food in our all meal times (enough for Arabian food!!!) except for breakfast, ‘cause we had breakfast in the hotel and no others food except Arabian food or international food (but no asian food).

Thank God we could finish our work a day before we took off, so we had time to relax for a non duty activities…We went to Sabratha, it’s a heritage site of roman emperor.
